Critic Rodolfo A. Salaveria had once said that “if Joya had merely produced drawings, he could still count among the major artists of the country,” and this work proves just that. Portraying his predisposition for the proletariat, Joya’s subject matter is evidently Filipina, her attire suggesting it is time for rest. Throughout his career, Joya professes his love for the Philippines, told both in abstraction and figuration.
