Rendered with muted precision, the objects glow faintly, as if suspended in memory rather than space. <br /> <br />\nThe monochromatic green palette operates both visually and metaphorically, invoking the phrase “greener pastures” and the aspirations associated with migration, labor, and border-crossing. By reducing the scene to what is abandoned rather than what is carried forward, Tan shifts attention to absence, residue, and the quiet material traces of displacement. Painted in 2012, the work exemplifies Tan’s characteristic wit and irony: a conceptual still life that appears minimal and contemplative, yet is dense with social and political implication.
