By using unsettling geometric distortion, dark-keyed color, and synonymous figures to create the image of fragmented human forms trapped within an intense red environment, San Miguel’s art mimics the feeling of confinement, alienation, or moral fragmentation, which reflect the country’s political tension, social conditions, and human struggle in the 1970s.
