Rubio’s comical interpretation of human figures distinguishes his works, with large balloon-like heads and elongated necks resembling wooden dolls. He often situates them against nature and old architecture, which are portrayed as impossibly small compared to his figures. At times, the artist pictures them as they fulfil their daily tasks and activities, as seen in Lunch Preparation, wherein a young boy helps his mother with the task at hand.
