Despite the minimalist nature of his canvases, Arturo Luz’s masterful use of forms and colors fills the void left by bare spaces, showcasing his spatial intelligence and discipline in aesthetic restraint. However, behind these works are even simpler, yet complex, compositions: his sketches. These two pen and ink drawings could have served as preliminary studies for his subsequent performer- or carnival-themed paintings, or just plain, random sketches. Nonetheless, it shows the artist’s ingenuity, integrity, and commitment to his craft.
