Two such artists, Emmanuel Garibay and Rene Robles, have gained recognition for their unique contributions to contemporary Filipino art as not only a mode of expression, but as a medium progress as well.

Both Garibay and Robles are known for their commitment to a type of social realism that has roots in a distinctive narrative tradition. They share a fascination with telling stories through their artwork. Garibay’s paintings often depict scenes of ordinary life, capturing the essence of Filipino culture and society. In a similar vein, Robles’ works are imbued with narratives that reflect social issues and personal experiences. The common thread of narrative realism connects the two artists, allowing viewers to engage deeply with their works on both aesthetic and intellectual levels.
