His playful appropriations of the modern and the childlike are said to unconsciously use the pictorial language of the Modern art masters as a resource for his graphic sensibilities. Furthermore, although his approach to imagery is intuitive, Tamondong is also known to routinely use geometry to break up figures and build them into colorful patterns. As a result, the surfaces of his canvases are alive with exciting activities, mixed at times with appropriated cartoon phantasies and crayon scribblings.

Tamondong has been active in the local and regional art scene since 2003. Aside from the top galleries in the Philippines, he also held international exhibitions in countries such as Singapore and Indonesia. He has received several awards and even won competitions, including the Art Association of the Philippines Annual Art Competition. A year after Blue Abstract was created, he was shortlisted for the Ateneo Art Awards in 2004.
