Napay. He graduated from Eulogio\nAmang Rodriguez of Science and Technology (EARIST)\nin 2009 with a Fine Arts degree and whilst in school,\nhe started gaining recognition for his skill. His works\nare made up of multi-colored threads intricately sewn\n(and sometimes tufted) onto canvas, may technically be\nconsidered as tapestries and yet, by just a quick glance,\none can tell that his creation evokes scene from day-today\nlife as well as symbolic journeys into the interiority of\nthe self. It transcended the humble materials, casting off\na splendor and expressiveness that can rival the nobility of\noils and acrylic.<br /><br />\nGrowing up with a seamstress mother, Napay being\nexposed to a wide variety of threads, cotton and fabrics\ngave him a strong ground to a different world of creativity\ndue to the limited space and lack of ventilation of their\nCaloocan-based home that made him developed an\nadverse allergy to oil paint, his original chosen medium.\nHe was able to realize the creative process beneath the\nthreads and fabrics, finding it quite similar with the use of\npaint - from early conceptualization to finishing touches\non an artwork. Seeing that his threaded works demanded\njust as much time and attention to detail as painting,\nhe started to equip himself with a needle in place of a\nbrush, thread and fabric as for paint. Napay then looks\nat his canvas as he would a painting - his lines sewn by a\nmachine and woven by hand - the result is breathtaking\npieces that explore depth and complexity in a different way\nthan just miming light.<br /><br />\n“(His) alchemy,” writes Fr. Jason Dy, SJ in the catalog text\nof Napay’s exhibition Sanctuary, “lies in exploring the\npotential of craft materials and tools as a medium for\ncommunicating his artistic ideas. He has been successful\nin appropriating the tailor’s skills of stitching and tufting\ninto his own creative processes. The repetitive acts of\ndisentangling and entangling twined threads as well as\nsewing them into canvases and other scraps of fabrics have\nbecome performative acts of deconstructing his experience\nof humanity and environment in order to build his\nparticular synthetic view on the complementarity of familial\nand natural habitations, and the interconnectedness of\npersons towards their quest for growth and wholeness","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":410000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":410000,"userBid":7351,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":478880,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":55279,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/20/35/lot/314.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[450000,500000,550000,600000,650000,700000,750000,800000,900000,1000000,1100000,1200000,1300000,1400000,1500000,1600000,1700000,1800000,1900000,2000000,2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":313,"next":315,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
