Ragodon was a Manila bor n and raised\npainter, whose works often revolved around the Spanish\ncolonial churches, houses and costumes. He worked\nfirst as a graphic artist for dif ferent publications, and\neventually became the art director of the Sunday T imes\nMagazines Art Section. By the 1960s, Ragodon was well\nknown for his church paintings; from 1967 to 1968, he\nwas given a UNESCO grant to study colonial chur ches\nin Europe and Mexico. Then 1972 to 1976, he was the\ndirector of the Filipinas Foundation and oversaw the\ndevelopment and construction of the A yala Museum,\nof which he was also the founding dir ector. He was\nalso commissioned in 1978 by former First Lady Imelda\nMarcos to do a painting of the Mlag-ao Chur ch in Iloilo\nas a gift to Pope Paul II. <br /><br />\nAs an accomplished landscape painter, Ragodon also used\nink, tempera, and watercolor. Sometimes, he combined\nChinese calligrapher techniques with his unique personal\nskill in capturing photographic likeness of old chur ches\nand old homes. His distinctive painting of old Spanish\nChurches in the Philippines during the ‘60s became\nthe hallmark of his career.
