To\nunderstand his art is to have a broad perception of our\npostmodern world. Dreo grew up in an impoverished\nquarter inside the University of the Philippines - Diliman\nwhere the majority of its non-academic personnel live. The\nuniversity administration employed his father as a carpenter\nand maintenance crew. Dreo lived in a densely populated\nneighborhood where sustaining one’s basic needs is an\neveryday struggle. The idea of being able to exhibit his\ntrials through art distinguishes Dreo and his art. Critics and\nviewers alike have remarked that stark social commentaries\ndefine his canvases. The figures in his compositions are\ndepictions of the environment where that defined his social\nconsciousness. In a Philippine Star article, Dreo’s art was\n described as “a result of a technical challenge that affects\ntalented painters like him.”<br /><br />\nDreo obtained his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the\nUniversity of the Philippines - Diliman in 1993. He has\nshowcased his works locally and abroad, both as a solo\nartist and as part of a group. Some of his solo exhibitions\ninclude “Balatkayo” (2014) at Art Galleria in Taguig and\n“Kalaro” (2010) at Utterly Art Gallery, Singapore.
