His sensitivity to the nuances of light enabled him to portray different times, climates, and seasons in his works. While his canvases share the same subject as the conservatives, his approach to art puts him in the same lane as the modernists. Rather than fine brushwork and a smooth blend of colors, Lorenzo builds up his colors with dynamic, impressionistic strokes, layering pigment with obvious strokes and impastos to create painterly effects.

In Ruins of Sto. Domingo Church, Lorenzo’s exemplary brush strokes and skilled play on light and color captured the church’s former beauty and grandeur, including its stored histories, even through the ruins. His palette evokes a sense of nostalgia for the time that has passed and regret for the structures that crumbled into dust and rubble, prompting reflection on loss and memory.
