She rests each of her hands on the sides of her chair, softly gripping the railings. Typical of an Aguilar Alcuaz nude, this woman sits beside a curtained window, the light washing from behind her blurring the edges of the chair she sits on and the table placed in front of her. <br/> <br/> There is a sweet and tender vitality that shines through Aguilar Alcuaz’s nude paintings. Writes art critic Alice G. Guillermo in a 2007 Business Mirror article: “The elegance of the image also stems from its sparing use of color limited to light ochre for skin tones, browns, supple velvety grays and sparkling whites for brilliant highlights. Sometimes the artist plays with white to the effect that the quiet nonchalant nude may seem to sit like a latter-day Venus on rolling waves of ocean foam.” <br/> <br/> Indeed, Seated Nude provides a supple, subdued translation of the common nude paintings that permeate the art world. Here, Aguilar Alcuaz focused not only on the anatomical accuracy of his works — he placed his figures in the middle of a narrative, creating a story of quiet contentment through his intimate portrayal of one’s private time, where one has the freedom to completely shed oneself of one's burdens, both physically and metaphorically.
