Though widely recognized for her figurative works, Dionisio has increasingly explored how memory and emotion may be expressed through texture, gesture, and layered abstraction. This piece traced the journey of image-making—from the artist’s foundational embroidered studies and painterly experiments to the final books that reach children, libraries, and communities across the Philippines. As Dionisio herself shared, part of the excitement of the project was discovering how to engage younger audiences by opening up her creative process and revealing how her works come into being. <br/><br/> That spirit of transformation is vividly embodied in The Dance of the Golden Grasses. Executed in oil on canvas alongside thread on linen stretched within a wooden hoop, the work collapses the boundaries between painting and textile art. At its center stands a darkened, almost architectural form illuminated by a fiery inner glow, surrounded by an eruption of richly layered marks, stitched textures, and gestural movement. Passages of violet, ember red, moss green, and gold seem to pulse outward in rhythmic waves, evoking both landscape and emotional terrain. The circular format of the linen hoop heightens the work’s intimate and immersive quality, recalling both a window and a vessel of memory. Though relatively more abstract in form than her previous works, the composition retains a deeply human presence.
