Reflecting human presence through absence. Minimal and meditative, the strict palette of black, white, and gray heightens the artworks’ sensitivity to texture and gesture—both of which rely on minimal marks to deliver an emotional landscape where presence and absence coexist.

Connecting it to the title, a Tryst is defined as a meeting, fleeting and emotionally charged. In these featured masterpieces, Lao Lianben constructs the abstractions as visual spaces where meetings might occur—between light and darkness, surface and depth, or presence and absence. The Tryst itself is never shown in the pieces—it was never supposed to be—but it is felt by the observer: fleeting, restrained, and intimate.
