This featured work is a testament to his excellent grasp of color and form, as well as the command of his chosen medium. Adopting a cubist-inspired technique, Peregrinos depicts a group of people who, by their postures and the items they carry, are migrating to a different location. Tabuena’s limited palette resulted in a painting resembling an old, slowly fading, deteriorating photograph. Although it is an oil painting, his translucent layers of paint create a rich tonal intensity and give the image the appearance of a watercolor piece, a style reminiscent of his early works.
