This massive work, like many of Navas’ diptychs and polyptychs, follows nature’s own tendencies as it sprawls and covers every habitable corner possible. <br><br>“Building and turning along the directions of their own growth, these frames are brought together to capture their organic form,” writes Cocoy Lumbao in Navas’s 2022 Silverlens ‘What Did The Tree Learn From The Earth To Be Able To Talk With The Sky’ exhibition. “They break away from the cold arrangement of fixed quadrilaterals, as if saying, nature will always run its course—even in composition, mimesis, and in painting.”<br><br>Though created three years before said exhibition, Gentle Footstep Hurricanes (Diptych) is perhaps a testament to Navas’ enduring inspiration. As the greeneries occupy every possible space in this canvas, her foliage works are a precursor to her magnificent trees. Through their overlapping leaves, Navas creates a world that continues to thrive and survive despite it all.
