Even at the pinnacle of his career, Manansala still finds it within himself to go back to his roots and practice drawing. Aside from his renowned abstract works and his famed stained-glass paintings, he also has an ample amount of charcoal and graphite drawings, sketches, portraits, and nude studies. The female body was one of the recurring themes in his drawings, with a focus on appreciating its beauty and intricacies. Despite being in black and white, Manansala employed his mastery of light and shadow to delineate his figure’s every curve and line, demonstrating his ability to infuse his work with unspoken emotions and inviting viewers to uncover its hidden tale.
