While you can still make out the terrain beyond the mist, Sansó paints them in a manner where the colors blend together. In this piece, however, Sansó’s remarkable mist dissipates, and what greets viewers is a deserted coastal area.

Painted in the 1960s, Twilight Anchorage features a boat figure composed of an assortment of rocks and wooden shards. The piles of stones suggest that the place could have been an old port before the changing tides wore it out. The boat could once have been a real working vessel, thrashed by the raging waves, and was brought ashore and abandoned. Nevertheless, this imagery serves as a reminder of the dangers and precarious nature of the waters.

The orange and yellow skies signify the setting sun, its warmth mingling with the sea breeze and impending night air. Despite losing altitude, the sun still shines brightly and illuminates the scene. However, it was also this intensity that envelops this portrayal in an unsettling atmosphere.

Indeed, Sansó’s ceaseless talent and unwavering passion bleed through every stroke and hue. His profound understanding of light and color allows him to distort his images and shroud them in a layer of eeriness, no matter how picturesque and peaceful they may appear.
