His hyperrealistic paintings of nature are striking in their monochromatic glory; he removes obstructions to faithfully recreate a scene, resulting in an oeuvre of near replicas of a black-and-white photograph, so detailed are they in their creation.

His 2022 work, Where the Tide Left, depicts a wooden boat perched upon the shores of a beach, the waves lapping at the sandy coast. It is a cloudy day, and yet the sun still shines brightly, as evidenced by the rays that filter through the skies. Upon the bow of the boat rests a singular bird, the lone living thing in this piece.

Where the Tide Left is a stunning display of Lalongisip’s technical mastery. The piece borders just at the edge of surrealism, with the scene rendered as a pocket of time eternally preserved in stark, vivid detail. Indeed, this is one of the magics of Lalongisip’s oeuvre. In the silence in which he saturates his works, he invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the scenic ambience of the world he created, evoking a restrained yet vivid presence that reflects on the image of the ephemeral nature of time.
