Presenting an elegantly dressed gentleman with surreal and comical facial features, Loranzana takes the conventions of traditional European portraits and turns them with an obscene gesture—the grotesque face strengthening a sense of mockery as an offensive hand gesture was thrown from the shadows directly towards the observers. Transforming an image that is supposed to represent prestige and dignity into a grotesque, humorous, and rebellious masterpiece.
