A marked departure from Nuyda’s own style, which only hints at the sensuality of the female body, this particular Nude is significantly more erotic, with the woman’s body, and particularly her breasts, on full display. She faces the audience, unashamed of her nakedness, shedding the shackles of modesty as she flaunts her flagrant sexuality. <br> <br>Nuyda’s own brand of dreamlike poeticism is evident in his surreal sense of color. A lepidopterist specializing in Philippine butterflies, Nuyda takes direct inspiration from the otherworldly hues marked on the butterfly wings. <br> <br>The result is an ephemeral transformation of the human body, its colors and forms transcending conventional representations. <br><br> This particular nude came about just a year after Navarro’s passing in 1999. In 1995, he and Nuyda embarked on a two-man exhibition featuring all-nude works, portraying the artists’ unbridled fascination with the human body and the sensuality that accompanies it.
