In this 1986 masterpiece, BenCab portrays a wide-eyed, anxious individual who raises their hand above their head while the other curls inward protectively, immediately creating a pose that hints at fear, uncertainty, or self-defense. Their face captures wide eyes and a slightly open mouth, making them appear surprised, worried, or frightened.

This further reinforces the subject’s pose and body language.

Rather than emphasizing realistic details, Cabrera focuses on emotion through posture, movement, and the rhythm of their clothing, as if the subjects were caught in a brief moment of reaction. Their anxious gaze and defensive pose immediately suggest the piece is a study of fear and vulnerability through body language, facial expression, and movement. In some sense, the figure’s subtle body language and gesture shine through the watercolor washes, allowing the piece to communicate with the audience without a clear narrative.
