Alongside his abstract expressionist works, Joya introduced his acrylic collages, a unique blend of translucent, finely grained rice paper and acrylic paint that creates biomorphic shapes of varying sizes and densities.

With his radiant palette and curvilinear shapes, Glow of Life indeed shows what it feels like to be truly alive. His shapes may seem random, but they nevertheless coalesce into a coherent depiction of life's exhilarating nature. Like life itself, this 1978 piece also contains dark parts—some visible, others hidden. Still, Joya reminds us of the bright colors that could light upon us and dissolve the darkness, no matter how dark it is, emphasizing hope amid darkness.
