It was the House of Tampinco that also designed the elegant stone archways of the Manila Cathedral.

Isabelo Tampinco would partner with another eminent name, Graciano Nepomuceno, of Spanish ancestry, who had himself trained under the most well-known woodcarvers. Their first establishment, called the “Taller de Modelado de Nepomuceno y Tampinco,” opened on Calle Evangelista, and met with more than enough success to operate a second branch on Arlegui, a stone’s throw away from the Governor-General’s palace. For one reason or another, they would part ways as business partners but not as artistic comrades

Angel Tampinco breathes life into a seraph who gracefully gestures to the name plaque of Don Isidoro Santos. The heavenly being perches on an elegant plinth with the streamlined proportions of Art Deco. Its austere geometry and sharp, clean lines lead the eye to the towering presence of Don Isidoro Santos and the elegant cartouche bearing his name and details.) Santos is captured in a serious mood and is dressed formally as a captain of industry. (Lisa Guerrero Nakpil)

Don Isidoro Santos was a prominent wealthy landowner, capitalist, and sugar planter from San Fernando, Pampanga during the late Spanish and early American colonial periods in the Philippines.

He amassed vast agricultural landholdings through financial credit arrangements and pacto de retro (retroactive land sale/mortgage) contracts.

His fortune reportedly began in the late 19th century, when Santos astutely leveraged his capital to extend large loans to local landowners in exchange for properties with repurchase options.

When borrowers failed to settle their debts amid the disruptions of the Philippine Revolution, these properties— such as tracts in Magalang—were absorbed into his estate. He was grouped among a small circle of elite Kapampangan entrepreneurs—alongside figures like Mariano Pamintuan and José L. de Leon—who consolidated immense wealth and land through strategic acquisitions during economic downturns.

He would then become a stockholder of various sugar centrals in the province and, at one time, was a municipal official.
