Through its weight, graceful stance, decorative horns, sweeping tail, and muscular body, Imao creates a visually striking sculpture.

Each detail demonstrates his interest in transforming natural forms through the same graceful visual language associated with southern Philippine art. Abdulmari Imao's Water Buffalo effectively celebrates the water buffalo's quiet and enduring strength while showing his modernist tendency to simplify and reshape natural forms.
