Whether they translate to trees, shadows, or literal lines bisecting his canvases, a Galicano composition is not complete without one. They are his “reconciliation between opposite poles and the merging of the Subjective and the Objective,” lending to his creation of a new meaningful work of art.

Even in this 1976 Nude, Galicano’s vertical lines make their appearance. Here, the line appears on the slab of wood the woman leans against. With her back to the audience, we are left to marvel at Galicano’s adept mastery of the human anatomy as he traces the curve of her spine and the suppleness of her flesh. Through his works, Galicano marries the traditional qualities of the old masters before him while imbibing the philosophical approach of abstraction.
