Created around the time Philippine artists began transitioning and experimenting with a new visual language in response to a rapidly changing social environment, his tempera masterpiece showcases Ocampo’s signature flat, graphic style.

With the composition dominated by curving, plant-like forms arranged against a warm orange ground, creating a botanical landscape simplified through bold outlines and flat, rhythmic patterns, Ocampo essentially demonstrates his ability to turn familiar natural forms into an imaginative modernist vocabulary and symbolism—an early example of his visual sensibility that would later define his celebrated contributions to Philippine heraldry, including some of the country’s most recognizable coats of arms, official seals, and institutional insignias.
