Rather than capturing an accurate image of a place, Westendorp focuses on conveying its particular atmosphere and experience. It presents nature as a peaceful and intimate experience—one where the expansive meadow, sheltered buildings, and lush foliage create a sense of quietness and retreat. By making the ordinary beauty of nature the subject, the featured painting became a quintessential example of the quality consistent with her lifelong interest in finding artistic inspiration in the natural world.
