This 1966 masterpiece presents a straightforward image of three women selling candles rendered in angular contours and tight interlocking forms. Despite being known for creating colorful scenes that celebrate ordinary Filipino life, this masterpiece continues to deliver the same spirit with equal merit. The way the three figures are drawn close together suggests a social interaction in the marketplace, capturing the collective character of Filipino everyday life while emphasizing the labor of their livelihood and elevating the common image into something celebratory and dignified.
