He was a self-taught artist who learned painting by watching other artists and trying out their styles and techniques. His relentless determination to master his craft led him to explore different mediums, before eventually settling with oil paint.

\nPaco’s predilection for a kaleidoscopic palette was inspired by the scenery and culture he was immersed in during his several years of settlement in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. However, this 1972 piece features monochromatic, washed-out browns, a stark contrast to his usual colorful outings. This palette highlights the dilapidated, run down shanties or barung-barong he depicts, emphasizing the structures’ poor condition as well\nas that of their residents.
