Many artists adept at on-the-spot painting follow the traditional style, thus producing realistic portrayals of their subjects as close as the naked eye can see. Dela Rosa, however, often\npaints with daubs and blotches of paint, using different colors to add highlights and shadows, exemplifying his famed impressionist style infused with a fauvist approach, sometimes creating a textured surface.

\nOne of the luminaries on the rise of impressionism in the Philippines, Ibarra dela Rosa’s contributions to Philippine\nart are immeasurable. From his wide range of artworks to his being an instructor, dela Rosa has touched the lives of many artists. He has not only opened the door to new possibilities but also inspired other artists with his art.\nHis inclusion in the CCP’s Thirteen Artists Awards in 1972, the same year one of the works in this lot was painted, further solidified his name in Philippine art history.
