Evolving from\nfull, figurative compositions into pruned expressions\nof geometrical clarity, his ability to instill a sense of\narchitectural balance into his paintings is inimitable;\nthe quality of drawing and draughtsmanship is a\nmajor element of his works.
\nWhen Luz’s works became increasingly stylised and\nmodernist, figuration has been desquamated to\nskeleton forms within a pictorial environment swirling\nwith non - representational punctuation such as circles,\ndots, arrowheads, parentheses, asterisks, and/or wisps\nof lines moving in space, as seen within Performance\nin Yellow, a resplendent example of Luz’s continuous\nvisual preoccupations. The lineal aesthetics,\narchitectural chic and a monochromatic tendency,\ndescribed the work of Arturo Luz but no one expounds\nthe principle of painting better than the artist himself:\n“Everything I do I invent. I invent my material, I invent\nmy own anatomy. I am after the gesture of the figure,\nthe bone, the structure, and not the surface.”","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
