De la Cruz’s parents\nwere bent on educating their children as professionals\nsuch as lawyers or doctors. This goal was eventually\nobstructed by de la Cruz’s love for the arts, a passion\nthat grew on him during his freshman year in college.\nAfter graduating with a degree in Philosophy from the\nUniversity of the Philippines Diliman, de la Cruz decided\nto pursue his passion and shifted to doing art full time.
\nThis particular piece titled Feed My Soul features a\nmetal sculpture of a woman sitting on an artist’s easel.\nAs the name suggests, one can interpret the piece as\nan ode to the process of creating art. The work breaks\nthe barrier between the artist and the audience by\nhaving the artist communicate to the audience the\nvery context that the work thrives in. One can see this\nthrough the use of the easel, an object commonly\nused in the creation of a work of art but rarely seen\nalongside the finished product, and in the graceful\nand timeless position of de la Cruz’s woman figure.","lot_group":"SCULPTURE","lot_details_html":"
