The Working Animals Art Projects\nfurther discussed that together with the other paintings\nincluded in the said exhibition, it appropriates imagery\nfrom Amorsolo’s body of works that is most often\nassociated with the production of Mabini artists. With\nthese as backdrop, Culibrina appropriates elements\nof the work of foreign contemporary artists such as\nYayoi Kusama, Ai Weiwei and Jeff Koons. He further\naccentuates this satire of homage by housing the\npaintings in ornate and ornamental frames, made\nmore self-consciously grandiose by the use of fake\npatina and engraved plaques.
\nThe painting, as Lisa Ito notes, “demonstrate\nCulibrina’s adept wielding of painterly technique and\ncomposition - skills which have earned his several\ndistinctions and awards from national painting\ncompetitions as a student in the past”.
