In several\nof her collages, the artist binds the images together with small\nstrips of colored tape that are not brought into obscurity\nby the primary image; they are integrated into the entirety\nof the collage. The word ‘collage’ has its roots in the French\nword ‘coller’ that means ‘to glue.’ With this, Javier affirms the\ncoherence of our identities by employing colored tapes as\nvisible art.
\nIt is this gesture of consolidating things into a whole that\nmakes Javier’s collages in a league of their own. She ensures\nthe unity of each component, establishing harmony within\nour fragmented selves. Javier explores and recognizes the\nhuman need to create meaning even from the most mundane\nof things. In Geraldine Javier: Fictions, this pertains to “an\nintention that begins and ends with the self – evasive but sure\nof its assignations and small devotions.” Javier situates the self\ninto a seemingly disintegrated collage: jarring yet an endless\nfeast for searching meanings","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
