After studying both art and\narchitecture from the University of the Philippines and\nthe Mapua Institute of Technology, Tabuena set his\nsights on New York as a way of broadening his talents\nand skills. While in New York city, Tabuena became\nenamored by the works of a number of Mexican\nartists such as David Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, and\nRufino Tamayo. In 1955, Tabuena travelled to San\nMiguel de Allende to view Tamayo’s works. Enamored\nby both the art and the culture, Tabuena decided\nto stay. The bustling sounds of the former Spanish\ncolony was very much like his homeland, thus Tabuena\nwas able to draw inspiration from both cultures\nwith imposing on either.
