He believes in the\npower and capacity of images to bring insight and\nchange behavior wherein his incarnational model of\nimage-making is rooted both on his art and theological\ntraining - a Fine Arts graduate and a degree in\nSociology from the University of Sto. Tomas and\nan MA from the Union Theological Seminary - his\ncombined studies have given him a language for\ncultural imagination, shying away from the lectern,\nhe turned with assurance to the task of making bristly,\ndifficult and parable-like images that investigate the\nnature of the human person.<br /><br />\nIn this masterpiece, Garibay showed that he is unlike\nthe many artists that were shaped by Christianity.\nHe has probed deeper into the collisions between\nthe ministry and the nature of power that they tend\nto explode in the mind like parables, turning things\nupside down exposing conditions of power and\npowerlessness. He is aware of the here-and-now social\nanalysis brought to bear by liberation theology, and\nhe sees in images the capacity to provide an antidote\nto blindness and rally the imagination to new acts of\njustice.
