There, Amorsolo\nbecame exposed to the works of major French\nRealists, Impressionists, and Post-Impressionists.\nHe also became acquainted with the paintings\nof Spanish luminist Joaquín Sorolla y Batida\nand Baroque master Diego Velasquez. These\ntwo painters eventually became his most admired\nand emulated artists. Trained under Western art\ntechniques, Amorsolo employed impasto and\nspontaneous brushstrokes, highlighting the\nbeauty of landscapes and everyday scenes.

\nFernando Amorsolo’s depiction of the rural woman\nin an illuminated bucolic mise en scène aimed to\ncapture the alluring charm of the Filipina in her\nnatural appearance and attractiveness. Despite\nhaving Western artistic training, his portrayal of the\nFilipina is devoid of Western-centric beauty standards\nand notions. This pursuit visually resonates in this\npiece depicting a rural fruit vendor with a bilao.\nPainted during his “Golden Period,” Amorsolo\nportrays a young Filipina maiden possessing a medium\nbrown complexion that is reminiscent of the image\nof Maria Clara. For Amorsolo, the dalagang bukid is\nthe quintessential Filipina muse. With the application\nof relatively thin and small brushstrokes, the warm,\npleasant sunlight exudes an ambiance of tranquility\nusually associated with rural living. The tropical\nlighting also accentuates the physical appearance\nand the rustic clothing of the woman. Amorsolo\nperfectly encapsulates his mastery of Luminism,\nwith the whole composition giving off a euphoric\nradiance due to his blissful depiction of the woman.

\nUntil his passing in 1972, Amorsolo constantly\nredefined his interpretation of the classic Filipina\ncharisma that has become one of his defining\nlegacies in Philippine art.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Fernando Amorsolo (1892 - 1972)
Vendedora de Frutas
signed and dated 1939 (lower right)
oil on canvas
16\" x 12\" (41 cm x 30 cm)
","alias":null,"hp":13000000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":13000000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":15184000,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":20201,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/24/43/lot/58.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":57,"next":59,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
