He also made many outdoor\nstudies of the Filipino countryside in an ardent endeavor to\ncapture the light and color of what he observed. Amorsolo\nwas not a social commentator, but an aesthete who hoped\nto emphasize the finer qualities of his country and the\npeople, from the beauty of the natural environment to the\nnatural grace of the common people and the dignity of\ntheir life and labour. This early work entitled Rice Terraces\ncaptures the majesty of the northern landscape, one of\nthe wonders of the world. Amorsolo brings it down to\nearth, however, with a line of tribespeople bringing their\nvegetables and wares to market. The popularity of his\nart is easier to account because it embodies a sense of\nsweetness and light. The life he chose to portray on canvas\ninvariably brims with good cheer, serenity, casual grace,\noptimism, and just what we would like to see after a hard\nday’s grind.","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Fernando Amorsolo (1892 - 1972)
Rice Terraces
signed and dated 1958 (lower right)
oil on canvas
24” x 30” (60 cm x 75 cm)
","alias":null,"hp":6500000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":6500000,"userBid":5930,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":7592000,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":20450,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/25/44/lot/158.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":157,"next":159,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
