Orlina did not\nreceive any formal sculptural training for glass sculpting as the medium was\nuncommon among artists at the time and hence no institution or program\noffered it. His creative process is the brainchild of his stint at Republic Glass\nCorporation’s factory where he asked the top glass engineers and observed the\nindustrial science of glass.

\nThe human body, particularly the female nude, has been the archetypal\ninspiration and subject of numerous works of art. The female torsos and its\nnourishing breasts are the prime inspiration and theme manifested in Orlina’s\nNing Ning Series in the 1990s. Orlina is able to synthesize the core tenets of the\ngenre with the inherent abstract quality of his signature medium of asahi glass.\nHere, the artist sought to capture the raw and unfiltered beauty of femininity\nand the unapologetic artistry of the human body. Orlina first crafted sculptures\nof two breasts, then three, then four. Despite the abundant number of pieces\nin this collection, Orlina made sure that all of his artworks are unique.","lot_group":"SCULPTURE","lot_details_html":"
Ramon Orlina (b. 1944)
Aphrodite-09
signed and dated 2009 (lower right)
carved green Asahi glass
20 1/2” x 13” x 11” (52 cm x 33 cm x 28 cm)
","alias":null,"hp":3200000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":3200000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":3737600,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":20462,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/25/44/lot/169.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":168,"next":170,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
