Most\nof the highly acclaimed masterpieces of Luz are\nmodest and superfluous in nature, echoing the\nmodernist principles of adroitness, refinement,\nand control. Furthermore, these works have been\ndescribed as a reflection of a zenith for Modernism\nin the Asian context. Since the 1960s, Luz has been\nconstantly fascinated with acrobats, bicycles, and\nmusical instruments. His depictions of these subject\nmatters create an impression of an inconspicuous\nconversation between movement and melody. In Trio\nPerformers, Luz employs a conscientious shorthand\nthat he has developed in his particular geometric\nlanguage. Purely geometric in form, this work is void\nof any complexity in style coalesced with a minimalist\napproach. Straight lines and circular shapes are\nintentionally emphasized and a black backdrop is\nemployed to highlight the linear characteristic of his\nfigures. In the July 1958 issue of Mobilways, Luz was\ndescribed as “a painter’s painter, his craft is craft in\nthe fullest sense of the world: controlled, astringent,\ndeliberate, and completely devoid of pyrotechnics or\nglamour.”","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":"
Arturo Luz (1926 - 2021)
Trio Performers
acrylic on canvas
38” x 61 1/2” (95 cm x 156 cm)
","alias":null,"hp":4600000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":4600000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":0,"hammer_price":5372800,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":20363,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/25/44/lot/83.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":82,"next":84,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
