Their artistic undertaking of glass as a\nmedium is to produce it, either through a hot or cold process,\ninto a sculptural or three-dimensional form. The artistic use of\nglass was at its heyday in Europe and North America but in the\nPhilippines, it was never considered before the 1970s. In the\nPhilippine art scene, glass to the unimaginative eye was cold,\nunyielding yet flaccid, and imperturbable to sculpt. Its utilitarian\npossibilities and capabilities were in the form of dinnerware,\nophthalmologic eyewear, industrial material for automobiles\nand buildings, et cetera. Furthermore, a lack of an appreciative\naudience among Filipinos is the reason for the non-existence of\nthe metier of glass sculpture in the Philippines.<br /><br />However, in 1975 Ramon Orlina gave artistic life to glass\nthrough his first solo exhibit entitled “Reflections, Paintings\non Glass”. It shattered both the popular notion of glass and\nthe proverbial glass ceiling that hovered in Philippine modern\nart. He was classically trained and worked as an architect,\nhowever, in the aftermath of 1972 Orlina lost his architectural\npractice. It was by happenstance he started to pursue his true\npassion for art. To undertake it, he used glass as his medium\nthat he grew up and worked with. Over the years, he pursued\nand developed the newfound art of glass sculpture that\nhas changed the Filipino's perception on glass as an artistic\nmedium, earned the awe and respect of international glass\nartists who considered his techniques and procedures to be\nadvanced ahead of their time, and crucially ushers in the\nmodern sensibilities of art in the Philippines.<br /><br />Ramon Orlina is known as the sole progenitor of\nPhilippine glass sculpture for he has set the seminal standards,\ntechniques, procedures for creating aesthetical glass\nmasterpieces that have blazed the trail of glass sculpting\nin the Philippines. For his establishment, development, and\ncontribution to the field of glass sculpture, Orlina has gained\nrecognition and accolades from both the international and\nlocal art community thus earning the plaudit as the “Father of\nPhilippine Glass Sculpture.”","lot_group":"SCULPTURE","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":600000,"bp":0.168,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":600000,"userBid":6883,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":700800,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":20953,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/26/45/lot/485.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[450000,500000,550000,600000,650000,700000,750000,800000,900000,1000000,1100000,1200000,1300000,1400000,1500000,1600000,1700000,1800000,1900000,2000000,2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":484,"next":486,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
