Ocampo’s knowledge on history is described as encyclopedic in expanse. His works are significant contributions to national heritage. Ocampo’s behind the design of the coat of arms and seal of the Republic and of the President of the Philippines, among other symbols of the state. He also designed the stained-glass windows of the Manila Cathedral and Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City. One of the old masters who initiated Philippine modern art, together with National Artists Victorio Edades and Carlos “Botong” Francisco, he formed the famous triumvirate with them during the 1930s.<br /><br /> Also one of the Thirteen Moderns, Ocampo’s style is influenced by Cubism, depicting Christian themes and Filipino indigeneity, or oftentimes, blending these subject matters. <br /><br />Mindanao Dance showcases his Cubist and muralist techniques as he renders a celebrated traditional dance. Ocampo is known to render Igorot and Moro dancers, and this work adds to his lively works with elements, figures, and themes of indigenous culture.<br /><br /> Ocampo was posthumously conferred the Order of Lakandula with the rank of Marangal na Pinuno in rites held at the National Museum on July 22, 2015. A muralist, painter, professor, writer, and a specialist in heraldry, he was the director of the National Museum from 1962–1968.
