The artist’s fascination with \nglass as a three-dimensional medium, after all, necessarily \ndraws from his practice in architecture—a field of study \nthat seems to hover elusively between art and scientific \ndesign. More than the establishment of structure, \narchitecture also considers light and space, both of which \nbecome foregrounded in Orlina’s craft. <br /><br />\nAs light filters through the jaggedly carved glass of \nOrlina’s pieces, a meditative play on light, shadow, and \ntransparencies is evoked to soften the hard edges of \nform, thus letting the viewer witness a fluid interaction \nthat transcends the sculpture’s own solidity. The result \nis a mystical experience of light—a feeling of ‘lightness’, or a sense of enlightenment from the sheer glass \ncorporeality of the sculptural form.
