It would be entirely fitting that the man \nwho celebrated an eternal summer in his works would be \nborn in that sunlit month. His family would move from Paco, \nManila to Daet, Camarines Norte by Christmas of that year and \nwould stay there until his father’s passing 11 years later. Almost \ncertainly, Amorsolo’s love for the great Philippine outdoors \nfirst took root in those pastoral years, a few towns away from \nthe majestic Mayon Volcano, which would grace many of his \npaintings, amid the rice fields and fruit trees of Bicol.

\nHis mother, Bonifacia Cueto, would return to the capital after \ntwo years, exhausted from the struggles of having to raise six \nboys single-handedly. They would take refuge with the now_x0002_prosperous Fabian de la Rosa.(Bonifacia supposedly would \nsend her cousin the young Fernando’s drawings to convince \nhim to take him on.)

\nFabian would indeed take both of his nephews — chiefly \nFernando and his brother Pablo — under his wing, making them \nfirst his manchadors, and then his able apprentices. (Fernando \nwould thus formally begin under De la Rosa’s tutelage at just \n13.) It was from him that the Amorsolo siblings would learn \nthe storied tradition of being journeymen and the superb \ntechniques that would only sharpen the brother’s talents.

\nWhile De la Rosa’s paintings would embody the 20th-century \nFilipino identity, in all a brand-new country, idealized under the \nnew colonial masters. There would still be something of the Old \nWorld about them, expressed in Italianate overcast skies and \ndark forests.

\nIt would be, however, Fernando Amorsolo who would make his \nown paintings of a sun-dappled paradise famous across the \ncountry.

\nIn the work at hand, Tinikling Feast, the maestro has pulled \nout all the stops to create a joyous Filipino fiesta like no \nother, putting together a rare and record number symbols \nof prosperity and bounty : There is the welcome dance of the \ntinikling, but there is also a lechon, roasting on a slow spit \nbeside a waiting rice bowl; a boat on the riverbank is groaning \nwith bananas and vegetables; there are baskets of ripe mangos, \ntoo; a strong carabao, harvest stacks of rice; musicians and \na throng of happy guests, including many of Amorsolo’s best \nloved characters, women with parasols, farmers and their wives, \nas well as musicians and dancers.

\nThis work was a personal favorite of its collector, as it symbolized \nthe welcoming spirit of plenty of a Filipino community; \nEdilberto “Ed” V. Pozon, would hang it in his personal study. \nMr. Pozon was an international banker with Wells Fargo (1967-\n1969) in San Francisco, California; Citibank (1969-1986) in \nthe cosmopolitan cities of New York, Jakarta, Singapore, and \nHongKong. Afterwards, he was with the Allied Group, HongKong \n(1986-1991), and founded Broadland Properties in Arizona, USA \n(1992 - 2008.)

\nMr. Pozon was a dynamic, engaging, beloved father and \ngrandfather; a supportive, compassionate spouse. He was also \na silent, anonymous patron to Catholic orphanages and many \nmore charities. He was a passionate collector of Chinese and \nFilipino antiques and art. His Amorsolo collection began when \nhe lived and worked in HongKong in the 80’s","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":16500000,"bp":0.2016,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":16500000,"userBid":5926,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":19826400,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":1905,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/4/5/lot/163.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":162,"next":164,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
