His works, drawing inspiration \nfrom the physical beauty of the natural \nworld, are populated with brilliantly \ncurated arrays of colors that seem to glow \nunder the luminosity of an inviting and \nunnerving radiance.

\nYet, simple was how he described his \npractice. He starts with the priming of \nthe canvas and then painting waif-like \nstrokes that are robust and delicate at \nthe same time, evoking a solid slate and \nthe fluidity of butterfly wings floating over \nhorizons. He was spontaneous as an artist, \ncomposing as he painted, only concluding \nan artwork once the paintbrush was lifted \nfrom the canvas.

\nAs per an Esquire article, his love for art \nwas not limited to creating with brushes \nand paints, it extended to the art of \ncollecting butterflies. “For my art, I get \nsome colors from butterflies. Do you \nknow that butterflies have unusual color \ncombinations? You usually won’t do those \ncombinations. It’s a mistake,” he said, \n“but when you see them in butterflies, ang \nganda. The color composition, saturation, \ngradation—ang ganda.”

\nOne can assume that a long history of \nbutterfly-catching adventures means that \nhe had decades worth of stories, with \neach butterfly in his collection holding a \nspecial memory. Indeed he was a one of a \nkind artist, and as Esquire wrote, “it takes \na special sort of eye to see the beauty in \nthese fascinating creatures.” (Isabella \nRomarate)","lot_group":"PAINTING","lot_details_html":null,"alias":null,"hp":3200000,"bp":0.2016,"isWithdrawn":0,"accounting_hp":3200000,"userBid":5930,"isPaid":0,"userId":22,"lot_status":"SOLD","isDone":1,"bid_history_id":null,"reserve_price":null,"hammer_price":3845120,"fav":0},"image":[{"id":1902,"img_url":"https://leongallery.sgp1.digitaloceanspaces.com/v2/auction/4/5/lot/166.jpg","isFeatured":1}]},"increment":[2200000,2400000,2600000,2800000,3000000,3200000,3400000,3600000,3800000,4000000,4200000,4400000,4600000,4800000,5000000,5500000,6000000,6500000,7000000,7500000,8000000,8500000,9000000,9500000,10000000,11000000,12000000,13000000,14000000,15000000,16000000,17000000,18000000,19000000,20000000],"prev":165,"next":167,"count_bid":0,"bid_history":[],"tokenExpired":1}
