While pursuing art at the University of the \nPhilippines, he sharpened his abilities and created \na style that combines traditional and contemporary \nelements. For instance, Barrioquinto has built a loyal \nfanbase because of his oeuvre of hyper-realistic \nwomen's portraits embellished with and surrounded by \nflora and fauna. Works such as The Fleeting Moment\n(2014), Swing (2016), and Loneliness Remembers What \nHappiness Forgets (2019) show how he portrays his \nwomen subjects in a surrealistic manner.<br /><br /> \nAs seen from these works and Screaming from the sky \n1, Barrioquinto has a personal Pop style that integrates \nelements from the iconography of Baroque with \nJapanese woodcuts. \nMoreover, what adds to the interest to this lot is that the \ncircular painting is in stark contrast with its deep, black \nsquare frame. An article called, “The Bad, the Dark, and \nthe Ugly: The Beauty of Andres Barrioquinto’s Work” \nmentioned that Barrioquinto has taken to personally \nchoosing and even “hewing the frames that hold his \nown portraits.” <br /><br />\nBecause of the lot’s black frame, the eyes of the \nviewers are more drawn to the elements present in the \npainting. The touches of gray and white in the snow capped mountains also complement the spiked, stone looking object.
