They are ubiquitous scenes in the \nstreets and alleys of both the urban and provincial \ndomains. The works unmistakably capture one of the \neveryday realities of the ordinary Filipino: music drowns \nthe struggling soul while liquor temporarily alleviates \nand washes suffering away.<br /><br />\nBeyond drinking as a collective recreation, Garibay \nprofesses that it is in the ordinary people where the \ntrue Filipino collective soul can be found, bound by \nstruggles and that shared yearning towards personal \nand societal betterment. We see leisure as a form of \nsocio-political resistance, a necessary act to reinvigorate \none's revolutionary spirit for tomorrow's struggles, and \nthe continued assertion of rights and influence on radical \nsocietal change.<br /><br /> \nWith his unvarnished realism, Garibay exhibits his affinity \nand empathy for the underprivileged and shows that the \nmasses possess an inherent kind of soul and humanity \nrooted in their earnest solidarity in all their pursuits and \ninterests.
