The \nart critic Emmanuel Torres writes in the book Art Philippines \nthat Oteyza's \"art is predominantly linear and detached; lines \ndo not have referential or associational meanings.\" Oteyza \ngraduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering \nfrom the University of the Philippines, hence his profound \nunderstanding of the relationships between linear elements \nand the composition's pictorial space. Oteyza's linear and \ngeometric spontaneity, which can be perceived as a dynamic \nsense of movement, heightens the work's graphic quality, \nseemingly evoking the elegant stained-glass windows of the \nclassic churches and cathedrals.<br /><br />\n \nVictor Oteyza was the son of Mauricio Oteyza, a Filipino \nconcert violinist in the US, and Dolores Sta. Maria. He is a \ncousin of National Artist for Film Eric de Guia, more popularly \nknown as 'Kidlat Tahimik.'
