Whether as still lifes or as decorative elements \nin domestic interiors, flowers bloom in the often brilliantly \npainted canvases of those figurative artists. As well, \nartists in our country are not immune to the seduction of \nflowers, this includes the abstractionist maestro Romulo \nOlazo.<br /><br />\nDiaphanous Anthuriums #77, done in oil on canvas, is \na piece that reminds him of the day when he, having \narrived from a painting session with the Saturday Group \nof Artists, brought to his wife an armful of anthuriums. \nThe romantic event paved the way for a new theme in \nthe art of Olazo. His anthurium paintings were executed \nat first as a realistic still life and then later rendered with \nhis signature Diaphanous approach, flattened but still \nretaining its distinctly recognizable heart shape, a shape \nthat evokes the universal emotion of love. For Olazo, the \nanthurium was a flower that moved his heart.
